Hells bells: Satori Circus returns with new performance art piece based on Dante’s ‘Inferno’

ROCHESTER – Many a hoary old joke begins with the line, “Three men are sitting in a bar.” The variations are endless, of course, but in this particular story the punch line will play out beginning June 7 when the multi-media performance art piece “FUNY AS HELL” opens at Oakland University’s Studio Theatre in Rochester.

“That’s what you get when you have a couple of beers,” Dave Dambacher laughed when recalling how he, his brother Brian and Russell A. Taylor came together to create this rather unusual musical endeavor.

The three met early in the 1990s at 1515 Broadway in Detroit where Russ was the house manager and the Dambachers were staging shows through their company, Loft Productions. They reconnected last year after Russ returned to Michigan after a several year absence. “So one night a bunch of us hooked up at a pub and were doing boy stuff – drinking beers, yellin’ and screamin’ and making stuff up – and we were having a riot. That steered us to doing something together as a group,” said Russ, a popular performance artist who works under the name Satori Circus. Read more…
